A Few Simple Tips Regarding Proper African Grey Parrot Care
As its name implies the African Grey is grey in color and it is also very intelligent; in fact, there may not be another more intelligent and that is the main reason why it makes such an excellent talker that is also able to mimic many different kinds of sounds – all for your amusement. It is also not at all unusual to hear an African Grey chatter to it in different voices as well as tones and in fact, it actually derives a lot of pleasure from this ability and is not anything to be concerned about.
No Physical Abuse
When it concerns African grey care, you have to first of all discipline him and do so in the same manner as you would for any other kind of pet though at the same time you must never physically abuse your pet because that may provoke aggressiveness in the bird which is not what proper African Grey care is all about.
Another aspect worth noting in your African Grey is its devotion to others of its flock and it is in fact quite a lovebird by nature. Thus, proper African Grey care also means that you don’t allow your African Grey to become lonely and in fact, if you provide it with human companionship, it will respond by becoming devoted to you, and so, you should not be surprised when it clamors for attention from you and it is also given to hopping all over your body as well.
There is nothing quite as bad as neglecting an African Grey and thus, another important aspect to proper African Grey care is to always give it your proper attention and also ensure that its cage is kept close to a window so that it has a good view of its surroundings and of the outside world as well.
Other than that, proper African Grey care also requires that you protect it from feather mites and give it a healthy diet as well as refrain from exposing it to smoke, changes in temperature and also from nicotine.
As far as correct food goes, it is advisable to feed it with commercial bird pellets as well as give it supplements in tiny amounts in the form of fruits as well as vegetables, and at the same time avoids giving it lettuce which will only result in it developing diarrhea.
Of course, you can easily be bowled over by the affectionate nature of the African Grey parrot; but, you need to remember that it is not wise to try and kiss it since it will only result in transmission of bacteria which is not good for either the Grey or for you. It is far better to play a game with it and in this way show your affection for your African Grey parrot.
